‘Diary’ is a project from Yasmin’s current practice which evolves from a photographic bases and employs interdisciplinary strategies. Many people experience traumatic events that act as ‘turning points’ in life. One such event provides the bases for Yasmin’s experimental work. Using her diary from 2014 (when the event took place) the work explores the tension between revealing and disguising, confiding and concealing. The project consists of seven darkroom prints, created by using a method of redaction and mixed materials. Through the process of photography there is potentially more revealed than intended.
'Time' developed as a smaller piece of work from my Final Major Project between 2016-2017. This image was the only one from a series of test shoots I became fixated on, questioning whether time really is a healer. Letters in response to this singular print were requested, which have been shared here anonymously.
Growing up as a Brit-Asian I've been fortunate enough to be part of two cultures, often choosing to switch personalities depending on whether I'm with family or friends. This project explores how I've favoured the British culture over the Asian, often turning my back on the traditions and values family expects me to adhere to.
Your Stories is a project which began in 2016. I met with women working on their dream careers to find out how they made it happen, and shooting with them enabled me to give readers more of an insight into their place of work or what inspires them.
